Tender words from broken places

The Story I Choose

I finally realised —
I wasn’t trapped in my story.
These were chapters I inherited,
written in the margins of others’ pain.

Through the dull ache of childhood neglect,
and the enduring weight of unmet needs,
I carried detritus from lives not mine —
burdens I was never meant to bear.

But now,
I turn the page.
Begin again.

I hold the pen now.
I write my own ending.

And in this ending —
my riches shine bright,
bathed in the golden glow of self-worth.

I reclaim who I could have been,
embrace who I am now,
and craft a chapter
filled with self-love —
proud,
unbreakable,
mine.
