If only I could give myself the love that I too freely hand out to others.
Who knows what my life would be like now,
where I would be,
Who might I have become.
But I am stuck in this painful loop,
Chasing any hint or sign of love as though my life depends on it.
An unbearable hunger that I can never seem to feed.
Each time I reach, it slips away,
my self-respect lies tattered in the gutter
and my coat of shame grows heavier with each passing year
